Hearing Aid Fitting & Programming

Getting the right fit and settings for your hearing aids is essential for better hearing. At Pathway Audiology, our fitting and programming process is designed to be a seamless experience. No two hearing aids are alike, so a proper fit is crucial to maximize the effectiveness of each device. Once a fitting and programming appointment is complete, patients are on their way to better hearing.

Before the Appointment

Before scheduling a fitting appointment, patients should consider trialing an available hearing device. Not all brands offer a trial period, but it can be an excellent way to get accustomed to the product. During the hearing aid evaluation, ask an audiologist about any brands that offer a trial period before buying.

Pathway Audiology provides a wealth of resources to help patients make an informed decision. The clinic is always ready to answer the most frequently asked questions, but patients are encouraged to do additional research on their own.

The Fitting Process

The fitting appointment typically lasts about an hour. Patients should plan to spend some extra time after the appointment to discuss expectations, care instructions and to set up future appointments. During the fitting, an audiologist will perform a series of sound tests to determine the most optimal settings. These tests measure the eardrum’s response to sound and help fine-tune the device. The goal is to find the perfect balance for optimal sound quality in all environments. Even though hearing aids come preprogrammed, they still require prescription adjustments before first-time wear.

Although sound is a big factor, comfort shares the same importance. Adjusting to hearing aids can take time, as your ears and brain adapt to the new sounds around you. It’s normal to experience some initial challenges, but these devices can greatly enhance your ability to connect with others and enjoy daily activities. A follow-up appointment provides an opportunity to fine-tune your hearing aids for optimal performance and address any concerns you may have.

Live Speech Mapping

Live speech mapping is an advanced technology that allows audiologists to see how a patient hears in real time. It offers a significant improvement over traditional verification methods like real-ear measurements. By using live speech mapping, audiologists can ensure greater sound accuracy and improve the hearing aid fitting.

As hearing aid technology continues to advance, live speech mapping has become an essential tool for providing the best possible sound. The personalized fitting, programming and tools of live speech mapping is a tailor-made experience for each unique individual. At the end of the session, comfort and sound clarity are maximized to their fullest potential.
